The 101 North and the Redwoods

Jane Reporting for 11th September

We left San Francisco this morning (11th September) in heavy traffic, knowing we had to get in amongst it as we had a long day ahead of us with the 340 mile journey to Crescent City.  At the very end of last year's trip I started trying to capture the road signs which indicated which highway we were travelling on but they are not easy pictures to snap.  This is the detail of one of a dozen or more less successful attempts.

The country we were travelling through became greener and greener as we headed north, and bushes and then trees started appearing. Then suddenly we were into redwood country and the huge trees were right up beside the road.  We pulled over to have a read of a sign about the state park and found that this one had needed (and got) corrections.

Geoff took the wheel for a while to give Gary a break:

We diverted off the main road to the visitors' centre to stretch our legs and check out the trees.

That way to Samoa?

We leave California tomorrow and head into Oregon and our visit to the Spruce Goose.  Another longer driving day.
