Utah (and a little bit of Colorado)

by Jane

[Sunday, 16th September] We had a leisurely launch this morning from Salina (Saline-ah, it's a salt area ;o); breakfast after 8am, left about 10.  The temperature was beautiful in my opinion but Gary had put a sweatshirt on so perhaps that wasn't a unanimous opinion.

Although the whole trip was through desert landscape it was absolutely spectacular.

The heat wasn't too bad for standing around in, though I always needed my hat - and eventually the guys started to see the sense of this and started to use their own hats.

The scale of the view was amazing - and I started to think if we had something this big in New Zealand it would stretch coast to coast in some places.

Gary, of course, did most of the wandering around looking for the best views.  Dad and I tended to stay near the car.

There were plenty of viewing areas and at each one we scrambled out of the car to take more and more photos.  Dad might have to add some of his own in another post as he had two cameras going!

In the photo below the silver car on the right-hand side of the parking lot (chap in red standing by the boot) is our car and Dad.  The photos can be enlarged by clicking them.

What a great day and we arrived in Grand Junction quite early so have raided the supermarket for cheese to go with Gary's wine stash and intend to put our feet up for a while.

  1. The photos are excellent - mind you, so is the story

I shut my door last night but must have left it ever so slightly ajar when I got up during the night, guess who pushed his way in at 5-05? He is curled up asleep on one of the chairs in the lounge at present. Sam continues to keep well away from us.
