About 9.30 in the morning Gary and Jane picked me up from my hotel and picked me up. Before heading for for Palm Springs we stopped of in the Riverside area for Jane to photograph three houses associated with her Ragdoll cats. This was not without incident as we missed a turn off, as you do on five lane motorways, necessitating a very long detour involving toll roads costing 2 x $2.50.
Arriving at Palm Springs for lunch at Lulus -- recommended by Pete Danvers -- we stepped out of car into 100 degree temperature. Gary had conveniently parked the car in the shade about three blocks away from the restaurant. So off for a walk in the heat past a large Marilyn Monroe, and buildings with mist sprays over the sidewalk to cool you down. Good lunch but on return to the car the black leather seats had now reached about 100 degrees.
Down the road to Blythe not many cars but lots of trucks. In Blythe we stopped to set up my iPad as a GPS system as Gary unit didn't have the Arizona maps. Soon we would cross the Colorado River and be in Arizona. A few mile later we did cross into Arizona, missed the first turn. We misunderstood the Scottish accent from inside my iPad GPS system. Before we got back on the correct road we had tiki-tour of the local farming area, one dead end road and many narrow farm roads.
Back on the main road we head up to the Parker Dam, across the lake and headed on to our hotel. Still 100 degrees we settled in and had a few wines and then went across the road to Mario's Italian Restaurant. After an excellent meal in this family-owned restaurant we headed home for an early night.
So ended our first day of our circumnavigation of the US.
