Raleigh to Charleston

Today [Thursday, 11th October] we left our hotel about 8.30, the temperature was much warmer and morning sunny. We first went around to say goodbye to Maureen at her daughter's house and met Maureen's latest granddaughter, Ava. As promised last night we had coffee and pumpkin muffins then met Andrea when she returned from dropping Sophie, Maureen's first grandchild, at preschool.
Before we left I took some photos of the Halloween decorations that are now appearing on the houses. First a Fall or Harvest theme.....
Then a full blown Halloween grave theme..
Leaving Raleigh we first head east and then south to Charleston. The tress in the area now appear to mostly evergreen fir or types of pine trees. These line both sides of the road close to the edges making it appear that your are travelling through a green canyon.
At regular intervals the tree on the left have been removed and the canyon opens up to let you see the traffic travelling in the opposite direction.
After several hours Gary drove off the main highway into one of the many rest areas that have petrol, food, and toilets. Here we slected the Bojangles' cafe mainly because it sounded like a southern name and we had never been into one before. We had fried chicken and biscuits--really scones. And we trried their Iced Tea. It was cold, tasted slighly of tea and very sweet, just like the syrup you use to bottle fruit.
From he we travelled south, passed a army convoy of about 20 vehicles.

After crossing into South Carolina we stopped at an information centre to pick up some data on Charleston. Before getting back into the car I took a shadow picture of the three of us. By now, of course the temperatures were in the high seventies, the sun shining brightly, and not a cloud in the sky.
Soon we were at our hotel, but about an hour before gettiung there I photograph a Fedex and a US Mail truck passing each other--two competing firms racing?

You will notice the picture are much clearer. I have change to Blogsy a different iPad app to write and post my Blog from.
