Day 7 - 2 May - At sea

This morning slept in--up about eight. The fact we had to put our clocks back an hour last night might have had something to do with it. Hang on a minute, that would make it nine--hope someone out there will sort it out. Anyway I went up to breakfast in the Lido Restaurant. Up to, as the Lido is on deck eight at the rear of the ship opening from the pool area. The restaurant has seating along both sides with sea views though large picture windows. In the centre is the buffet stretching the full length of the dinning room. Two identical buffets serving the seating on each side of the room. This dinning room is open for breakfast (6.30am to 11am), lunch (11.30am to 2pm), dinner (5.30pm to 8pm), and again at 11pm to 12 midnight for night time snacks. A very busy place, but not as cool, temperature wise, as the the main dinning rooms

To day the air temperature is 29 degrees and we have 8226 feet of water under our keel so if I fall overboard my feet wont touch the bottom. At least that was the situation about three this afternoon. We are heading for the Panama canal and have past several cargo so far.

This morning I went to the continuing series, by the resident historian Mike Millwood, on the history of the area and in particular the Panama Canal. Then I went out on the deck and saw a cargo ship in the distance. Inside for my camera, took a couple of photos only to find that the camera coming from my cool cabin had misted up badly. It took several minutes wiping and waiting for the camera to warm up before I could take any photos. I decided to sit down on one of the deck chairs and wait until we caught up to the ship.

My cabin is nicely situated through the doors, turn left, and then 4 cabins up the hallway.

We caught up with the cargo ship after about twenty minutes. I got out of my deck lounger--not an easy thing I might add--and took a few photos.

After which went to main dinning room for lunch. A fruit starter followed by a small helping of fish and chips beautifully presented and served with the choice of tartare sauce or malt vinegar.

Later in the afternoon went down for Happy Hour--second drink for a dollar. Met up with a very interesting gentleman about my age, originally from Croatia, but who has been in Canada for the last forty years. Back in my cabin I have to make up my mind-- do I go to the cinema to see 'Sherlock Holmes' or the ship's theatre to see 'The Comedy & Impressions of Jeff Burghart'. Life is one big set of decision when you are at sea.

Tomorrow we go through the Panama Canal.
