This is something of a test post on Dad's blog to check that we can all use it during the upcoming road trip around the US.
My husband Gary and I are eight days out from leaving home; Dad leaves a week or so later and catches up with us as we are just about to depart Laguna Niguel in Orange County, California, for the road trip.
Just where is this road trip going? What a great question! Here's the overview map that Gary's been working on since he got back from his Australian trip in July:

We've divided the journey up into three stages:
The Northern Leg
- Laguna Niguel, California, to Old Orchard Beach, Maine
The Eastern Leg
- Old Orchard Beach, Maine, to Jacksonville, Florida
The Southern Leg
- Jacksonville, Florida, back to Laguna Niguel
This last leg includes the Southwest which I have wanted to travel through since we had flights that took us through Phoenix airport in 2004, and it's also our little bit of following Route 66 which is one of Gary's goals. He sent along a note for the blog saying:
We’ll be travelling on portions of Route 66 from Amarillo to Flagstaff.
New Highway 40 now runs parallel.
So, test post complete, introduction written. Now to pack the bags and get ready to go.
