I am off overseas again.

I am travelling again in  June  flying out on the eighth to Canada and being away about a month. Where last year I spent many hours (days)  and money in second book shops this time I intend to spend my time continuing  research into Scott’s Northern Party and Victor Campbell.  The  success of all this I hope will show in the improvement and development of  my computer site.        https://sites.google.com/site/scottsnorthernparty/

In Canada I will spend some time at the Memorial University in St John’s Newfoundland delving further into the Victor Campbell archive.   After this I take a flight across to London then up to Cambridge to spend some days at the Scott Polar Research Institute.  Here I want to read more of the diaries and field notes from Northern Parties summer sledging in the Evans Cove region and their final sledge trip back after surviving the winter of 1912 in a snow cave.  In particular I want to obtain more detail of the two climbs undertaken along the Boomerang Glacier on January 20, 1912.

My trip won't be all work.  I have wanted to see Niagara on the Lake and some of the historic sites related to the war of 1812 when the Canadians routed the Americans.  In addition I have an interest in canals both big and small ever since spending seven days on a narrow boat sailing the Kennet and Avon canal back in 2000.  Hopefully, I can satisfy both interests by stopping a few days in St. Catharines and doing day trips to Niagara on the Lake, some of the old forts, the locks and museum associated with the Welland Canal.  I would have liked to stay in Niagara on the Lake but some bloke 'Shaw' is having a festival there in early June.  He must have a lot of friends as nearly all the hotels are full.  So as I mentioned above I will stay in St. Catharines.  From here I will be travelling up to Kingston and spending time with some very good friends.  After which I fly to St. John’s and then on to Cambridge finally flying home with a break of a few nights in Hong Kong.

I will be taking my laptop and as all the hotels I am staying in have Wi-Fi  it should be possible to have some posts during the trip.  That's my plan anyway.

Oh--I will be looking in a few second-hand book shops as well.
